I always seem to fail at them and then I get all upset and
then I have to eat something and follow it with a coke
and then wait 11 1/2 months to set it as my resolution again
so I don't do them...
I do however do
ONE LITTLE WORD or OLW
for a few years I have followed
stalked and stalked some more
Stephanie over at Homegrown Hospitality
she introduced me to this whole OLW thing
it is simple really
you pick ONE LITTLE WORD
for the new year
in the past (for 2 years...yes you can keep it for more than one year)
my word was gratitude
I would look backwards at what could have been
not what it is
I couldn't enjoy
this
because I was too worried about
that
I saw a quote on pinterest
and it had an unknown author so I am thinking I am safe
by making it into a
Farley poster
but it summed up why I chose gratitude
it said
when I picked the word gratitude I was aware of this shortfall
(me with a shortfall... I know I know *wink*)
I kept this word close to my heart
I would repeat it
I would doodle it
I would think it
when something didn't quite go right I would try really hard to find gratitude
it really helped me become a better person
ONE LITTLE WORD
I kept this word for 2 years because it felt right
and now I am retiring gratitude... I have that now... I OWN it
it sits nicely on my shelf of life
like a big trophy
(glitter trophy... everything is better with glitter)
(OK maybe not grits or oatmeal but you understand)
and now I am moving on to my new OLW
POLISH
as in make shine
I love it actually
I didn't go searching for this word
it just came to me
I have used it a lot this year actually
the word not the meaning...
my co-workers KNOW that I use the phrase...
we need more polishing and less tarnishing
a lot this year...
well I am going to stand by my word
and make a real effort to try to polish
my focus is
work - home - self
having one little word is so easy
I hope you join me in this
and I am giving you a heads up so you can think of your ONE LITTLE WORD
if you want to go ahead and tell me in the comments
YAY
and
I would love to see what everyone else picks
BUT I am also going to have a section on the CURRENTLY for January where you can tell me your
ONE LITTLE WORD ...
you have a few days to think about it!!!
I hope you will join me...
no pressure
and if you want to see
more info about this
OLW thing here are some links
both of these places are WAY stalking worthy!!!
Homegrown Hospitality this is Stephanie's blog... she has the most amazing talent and I gave myself a gift and bought her doodling one course... LOVE IT!!!
Ali Edwards is the brains behind this OLW and she explains it WAY better so please go check her out too
and I LOVE her WORD but I am still keeping mine :)
Love this idea.
ReplyDeleteYou can combine both of yours too:

That's so funny I posted about my OWL yesterday. I did something a bit different this year...I like your OWL!

I started this last year too! In the past, I'd make resolutions I failed to keep which just got me down and a downward cycle would start. Last year my word was joy. I haven't picked a word yet for the coming year but I am a firm believer that it will pick you.
ReplyDelete2B Honey Bunch
I love this!! I think my 2012 word will be "compassion".
ReplyDeleteWhat a perfect idea! Who EVER keeps resolutions anyway, right?
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure of my word yet (maybe priority) but will be pondering this idea for the rest of my break.
Thanks for the great idea!

I am not a "resolution" kinda girl, but I thought I would give it a go this year. Then I read your blog "OLW" and I'm sold. Now to think of my OLW...I'll let you know!

I LIKE this! I don't care for resolutions. I tend to forget about things like that and remember them a long time after, not sure when I made them. I can probably remember one word - especially one LITTLE word.
ReplyDeleteI WILL think about it, and I WILL link up for Currently January! Yay!

I absolutely love this idea. I am pondering my one word but now that you said polish i have total word envy. But i will keep thinking!!!
ReplyDeleteLOVE this idea; thank you so much for sharing! I shared Ali's 2012 post on my FB page so hopefully some of my friends might be inspired, too! Now I have to think of a word...my first thought was "joy," but I think I'm kind of already good at that; it would probably be good if I picked something I really NEED to focus on...thanks again for getting me thinking!
ReplyDeleteThis is a wonderful idea.
ReplyDeleteAnd here is what makes YOU wonderful:
"... We need more polishing and less tarnishing..."
That could be a Farley poster all by itself. That is a great sentiment and a good rule to live by.
You are so inspiring! Thanks for the weblinks and the details. You've given me a lot to think about...

Love the idea, lots to think about....holidays are so wonderful but after all the fun, food, presents,excitement...I like the simple idea of one word. Thanks !!
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of OLW. Think that I will blog about it too and link back to you. I have been thinking about this idea for a while. I, too, hate the disappointment of resolutions. I am going to use the word BALANCE. That is what is needed in my life.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year!
